This manual describes the two-phase procedure for conducting social type ratings of adolescents in American secondary schools. Ratings yield continuous or categorical scores indicating peer assessments of an adolescent’s peer group (crowd) affiliation, based on the crowd structure inherent in the school context being measured. This is an unpublished manual. Information on validity and reliability of the STR procedure is available in published articles based on STR data. Additional information is available from Schwendinger & Schwendiger (1985), from whose work the STR procedure was adapted.
