Menarche Home
- Sooo… period talk. Menarche, or your first period, occurs during puberty. It can be a weird time, especially if you don’t know much about periods. Basically, periods happen every month because your ovaries release an egg.
- This comes out in the form of bleeding each month. It means you are HEALTHY and capable of having kids one day!
- Some of your friends may have not gotten their periods yet, which is totally okay. It may seem weird that you have your period and some of your friends don’t.
- They may be confused or even jealous. But everyone’s time will come. But you are not alone, or weird, or isolated because you got it first – we promise.
- We know what people think seems really important-but remember… This is a private thing and doesn’t affect the person you truly are. It’s just your body is maturing a little earlier! No big deal.
- After your first period you may feel angry, sad or even try and hide your period. Especially if you are around 8 or 9 years old. You may not feel prepared to deal with your period. But, we are here to say you are COMPLETELY NORMAL!!
- There are a couple things you can do to be prepared for your period, whether it’s your first one or not. First- know the kind of feminene product you want to use. There are tampons (which need to be inserted into the vagina), pads (which stick to your underwear and you change a bit more frequently), or reusable cups (like a DivaCup- this may be for girls who are familiar with tampons and their period already). Once you pick the one you feel comfy with, keep them at hand or in your backpack. Second, know you may feel mood swings, cramps or other side effects before or during your period. Don’t sweat it. That’s called premenstrual syndrome, and so many girls feel the same. So basically, try and prepare yourself for your period and you will feel a lot better.
